Al-'Imran (The Family of Imran)
Surah 3 · Verse 28
Do not let the believers take infidels as friends besides believers, and whoever does that then there is nothing (for him) from Allah in anything, except that you guard yourselves against them guarding carefully, and Allah makes you cautious of Himself and towards Allah is the destination.
“Believers should be friends of believers. Infidels are enemies of Allah (SWT) and the believers therefore they should not be taken as friends. If any believer takes the infidels as friends he will not get anything from Allah (SWT) probably meaning any reward. In case a believer is forced by circumstances to keep social contacts with the infidels he should carefully guard himself to see that they do not inflict any loss on him due to enmity. Allah (SWT) warns to be cautious of Him because ultimately all will return to Him.”
