Al-Baqarah (The Cow)

Surah 2 · Verse 220

on (this) world and the hereafter. And they ask you about the orphans, say, “To set right for them (their affairs) is good, and if you mingle (your affairs) with them, then (they are) your brothers, and Allah knows (can distinguish) the corrupt from the one who sets right affairs, and if Allah had willed He could have over- burdened you, Allah is certainly Mighty, Wise.”

“Orphans could be wealthy, in which case their expenditure can be managed through their wealth. Sometimes it might become really difficult to separate the expenditure of the orphans from that of the custodian, for instance the expenditure of meals. Under such circumstances the custodian should not take advantage and swallow the money of the orphans but he should set right their affairs, this rule can be extended to orphanages too. Allah (SWT) knows very well one who exploits and one who sets right affairs. If Allah (SWT) had willed He could have burdened the custodian by ordering him to bear the total expenditure of the orphans, He has not done this because He is Mighty Wise.”
